A WOMAN who came round from an epileptic fit to find two jeering lads filming her has completed six endurance races to raise awareness of the condition.
Maggie O’Connor, 26, had been walking her dog, Dillion, through St Botolph’s Priory, in Colchester, when she began having a seizure, causing her to wet herself and bite her tongue and cheek.
But when she came to, the two boys were filming her on their mobile phones.
On Saturday, she completed the last of the six Spartan Endurance races - despite a dislocated knee - a feat she hopes will raise the profile of epilepsy.
Maggie, who lives in Priory Street, said: “For me, it is about raising awareness because when somebody sees a seizure, they don’t know what they’re seeing and they don’t know what to do and I’d like to change that.”
The best advice Maggie, who suffers seizures every few days, has for people who witness a seizure is to make the person as comfortable as possible and never to try to stop the seizure.
So far, she has raised £500 - exactly half of her target.
A fundraiser is set to take place on Wednesday, October 22, to raise the remaining cash, for the Young Epilepsy Foundation.
The event takes place at the Victoria Inn, in North Station Road, in Colchester, between 7pm and 11pm.
Rockers Cold Norton will provide the soundtrack of the event, while award-winning Colchester comedian Thom Barrett will also take to the stage.
Entry is free and there will be also be a fundraising raffle.
Any businesses who can donate raffle prizes should call Theresa Carter on 07930927371.
