AN investigation has been launched after three boats were destroyed by fire at a caravan park.
Firefighters were called to Firs Chase Caravan Park shortly after 1am today.
A crew from West Mersea spent 45 minutes tackling the blaze.
They were able to stop the flames spreading to other boats or holiday caravans but not before three vessels were destroyed.
A spokesman for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were called to a caravan park following reports of two speed boats and one pleasure boat on fire.”
The fire is being treated as suspicious.
Essex Police is looking into it.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police have been made aware of the fire.
“Anybody who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area or who knows anything about how the fire may have started is asked to Essex Police on 101 quoting incident number 41 of November 25."
