LAYER Road legends are set to roll back the years at a charity football match this weekend.

Ex-Colchester United skipper Karl Duguid will lead a team packed with the club’s former favourites in a special Hope for Grace Cup fundraiser game at Stanway Rovers FC, on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).

Playing alongside Duguid at the Hawthorns will be the likes of Greg Halford, Kem Izzet, Jamie Cureton, John White, Dean Morgan, Craig Fagan and Michael Brothers, while Kevin Watson could also feature.

The team will be managed by loyal Colchester fan, Matt Calmus.

They will take on a Hope for Grace FC side at the event being staged in aid of six-year-old Grace Beverton, who has a rare genetic disorder.

Duguid said: "We love to do the charity games for Grace.

"Their team seems to get a bit younger each year, which makes a little bit harder!

Gazette:

"It's a charity that we all follow now.

"I've become good friends with Dale (Grace's dad) and the family and there's some great people involved.

"It's been a really good journey with the football club to end with this and I'm looking forward to this one."

Grace is one of just 80 people in the world who have what is referred to by scientists as RHOBTB2, which caused her life-threatening seizures when she was only five months old.
