A WOMAN is angry at Colchester Council parking wardens who gave her care worker daughter a parking fine while she was helping a client.
Sandra Gray, 68, of Coppice Road, Alresford, is urging the council to review its policy after her daughter was given a £30 parking ticket for parking on a yellow line in Roman Road, Colchester, while she made a call at a client’s home.
Mrs Gray is disgusted parking officials are not allowed to “use their common sense” to waive parking tickets for certain workers on call.
Her daughter, who does not want to be identified, works for a company providing care for housebound people in the area, She believes carers and medical staff should get special permits, allowing them to park near homes where they are making professional visits.
MrsGray said: “My daughter simply had nowhere else to stop. The road was full and the nearest car park was a good 20-minute walk away.
“The parking attendant could see she was wearing a carer’s uniform. It just seems as though they are out to make money and take advantage of people who are just trying to do their job.”
Matthew Young, the council’s head of street services, said the warden had been in the right.
He explained: “The car was parked unlawfully on a single yellow line – and those lines are there to tell people they should not park there.
“However, if the woman in question, or her parent, would like to get in touch and tell me why they think we should refund this parking ticket, which has already been paid, then I would be quite willing to look at it with my parking officers.”
