A GROUP set up to promote environmental projects is celebrating more than two years of success.
Transition Town Wivenhoe is holding a barn dance to mark the completion of a series of projects aimed at making the town more environmentally friendly.
The bar will be stocked with local ales, organic wines and soft drinks, and there will be free seasonal snacks.
In the past two years, the volunteer-led group has established an energy assessors scheme, opened the Station Community Garden and brought in a bicycle-powered cinema. Its next project will be a bike lending scheme. The group is part of the national Transition Network, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependency. Colchester, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Nayland also have active groups.
The Hosepipe Band and Steve Wiles will be performing at the event, which runs from 7.30pm until 11.30pm on September 17, at the William Loveless Hall, in the High Street. Tickets are £5 in advance and available from Wivenhoe Bookshop, also in the High Street, or £6 on the door.
