Joe Dunne has praised the contribution of his young players in Colchester United’s defeat against Brentford.
Drey Wright was outstanding and scored on his first league start for the U’s, while Alex Gilbey also made his senior league bow.
Teenage striker Freddie Ladapo made his maiden first-team appearance for the U’s, as a second-half substitute.
Dunne said: “Drey Wright was outstanding and I’m pleased for the lad.
“He had an exceptional full debut and really showed his strength.
“Gavin Massey also did well after coming back into the team and that’s how I want the team to play.
“It was a shame that I had to take Alex Gilbey off so soon into his senior debut.
“He was so desperate to do well but all of the young players showed great courage and they’ll just go for it.
“We had the likes of Drey, Gavin Massey, Dan Potts, Tom Eastman, Josh Thompson and Freddie Ladapo on the field and they all showed great courage.”
