Gavin Massey described helping Colchester United stay in League One as an “unbelievable feeling”.
The 20-year-old forward’s looping header set the U’s on their way to a crucial 2-0 win at Carlisle United on the final day of the season, helping them avoid the dreaded drop and relegate Scunthorpe United in the process.
Massey has been a regular in Colchester’s side under Joe Dunne this season.
And the former Watford player was delighted to play his part in securing their place in the third tier.
Massey said: “To stay in League One and be a League One player next season is an unbelievable feeling and that’s the best thing about it.
“It means so much to us and the fans who have been different class and hopefully now we can kick on."
