Drey Wright has returned to light training with Colchester United.
But the U's will give the young winger as long as he needs to return to match action.
Wright has been sidelined for nearly five months and underwent knee surgery in October.
The former U's academy player has not featured for Colchester since playing in their 2-2 draw at Bradford City, last September.
Colchester boss Joe Dunne said: "Drey's back in light training and he's jogging again.
"But we'll give him as much time as he needs.
"He's got another two to three years with us so no heroics."
