Colchester United have completed the signing of right-back Richard Brindley on a two-year deal.
Brindley, who played eight times for the U's on loan at the end of last season, has become the club's first signing after agreeing to return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Brindley was a free agent after being released by Championship side Rotherham United at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old defender joined Rotherham from Chesterfield in the summer of 2013.
But he made only 28 appearances for the Millers and fell out of favour with boss Steve Evans.
He was released last month and has now completed a permanent move to the U's.
