A youthful Colchester United were put to the sword by Ryman League division one north new boys Witham Town tonight, in a pre-season friendly.
The U's were beaten 4-1 by Town at Spa Road.
Two goals apiece from Jason Fontaine and Billy Hunt helped give the non-league outfit an emphatic victory, with trialist Jackson Ramm scoring Colchester's consolation goal in the second half.
The U's side, managed by development coach Richard Hall, was an inexperienced one and featured the likes of Tom Aldred, Tom Bender, Alex Gilbey and Drey Wright.
Young striker Freddie Ladapo had to be substituted by boss John Ward in the second half after getting involved in an altercation with Witham defender Bradley Stopher.
