Alex Wynter has committed his future to Colchester United by signing a new two-year contract with the club.
The 22-year-old defender, who was due to be out of contract this summer, has put pen to paper on a new deal at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Wynter made his first appearance in nearly three months when he featured in Colchester's 3-0 defeat against Burton Albion last weekend, a result which confirmed their relegation to League Two.
He had been sidelined for several weeks following a clash of heads with team-mate Tom Eastman during the U's FA Cup defeat at the hands of Spurs, last January.
Wynter has made 38 appearances for Colchester since joining them initially on loan two years ago and is now keen to play his part in their League Two promotion push, next season.
Meanwhile, young U's goalkeeper James Bransgrove has penned a new three-year contract with the club that will keep him at the Community Stadium until 2019.
