Lewis Kinsella has agreed a one-year contract to stay at Colchester United.
The former Aston Villa youngster has penned a new deal to remain at the U's until the summer of 2018, after agreeing to stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Kinsella made a good impression after joining Colchester on a free transfer last summer.
The 22-year-old was a regular at left-back and made 13 league appearances but suffered a serious ankle injury against Newport County last October which sidelined him for much of the season.
Kinsella returned for the final few weeks of the season and was present for the first day of pre-season training yesterday.
