Sammie Szmodics has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with Colchester United.

The 19-year-old, who made his senior U's debut at Bristol City last season, has been at the club since he was seven and has now committed his future to them for the long term.

Szmodics has made eight first-team appearances for Colchester so far this season and was a substitute for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Gillingham, following his recent ankle injury.
