Yet another crazy proposal for our town roads system; this added to those already in use - including the High Street, St John’s Street, North Hill, and Queen Street restrictions (Gazette, June 28, “Anger at ‘bus gate’ plan on busy road").
The town already is gridlocked with these restrictions. This will only add to our woes, and frustrations when visiting the town centre.
I urge those who are in charge to go back to the drawing board, and suggest the High Street and St John’s Street go back to what we knew - cars allowed entry, also allowed to come up North Hill, and go down Queen Street from the High Street.
We have a duty to support our town shops, banks and small businesses. Bring back the 30-minute parking as some towns have continued to use with continued success.
It was suggested using the bus and car parks would be a better proposition - not all buses are convenient, and have restricted stops, or stop short, and car parks are expensive compared to other towns.
I read that Lee Scott, who is the councillor in charge of highways maintenance and sustainable transport, says his aim is to create an excellent sustainable travel network for the town.

If that is the case, firstly consider the path and road conditions - both have broken sections and potholes; both are in need of urgent attention.
Then think of the town’s people and visitors’ safety before spending unnecessary funds that could be better used.
Can I also suggest they engage with the owners and personnel of those businesses and add Colchester people to your committee before making these vital decisions?
One final observation: You could offer Sir Bob Russell a position - he still appears to have the respect of the majority of our town’s people, and gets thing done for the good of the town, something that is failing with the town’s highway personnel, in the continuing ideas, in pursuing with these crazy solutions.
