THERE will be a magical opening to the area’s newest theatre school this week.
The ADP Theatre School is being run by Angie Diggens, who at the tender age of 22 must be one of the youngest theatre school principals in the country.
The Wivenhoe singer and musician has already got ten years of performance experience under her belt, ranging from producing and directing her own shows and musicals to working as the artistic director for the Princes Theatre Youth Company in Clacton.
One of Angie’s more recent successes was the musical project Down Town Dancing, which she won a prize for at last year’s Colchester Youth Awards for its contribution to the arts in the local area.
The former Stars in their Eyes TV show finalist will be holding the grand opening of her new Wivenhoe-based theatre school on Sunday, from 10am, with special guest, Colchester magician Michael J Fitch.
As well as singing and dancing, she says the ADP Theatre School will offer a varied curriculum covering all aspects of performing.
This will include teaching the basic techniques and skills needed to become a performer, including acting for stage and screen, all types of dance, including tap, modern, jazz, and all the different styles of singing, including musical theatre, pop, rock and classical.
The ADP Theatre School will also run a youth theatre group for 12 to 23 year olds, who will perform two big shows a year in professional theatres.
Angie said: “The idea for a school came out of the shows really.
“They are a large part of this project and hopefully the school will lead to more people getting involved. We’ve already got quite a few signed up, but if people want to enrol before the launch then we can get them their special T-shirts, so they can wear them on the day.”
