PERFORMERS from Angie Diggens theatre school are back for another musical journey around the world.
Following the success of last year’s Around the World, the Wivenhoe-based ADP Theatre School will be taking audiences on a return trip for Around the World 2 – Return Ticket.
Angie explains the idea of the show: “We start off in space where we ended in the last production and come back to where we started, taking in various countries along the way.”
The show, at West Cliff, Clacton, on Saturday, features music from all four corners.
Dance styles include salsa, tap and street, and there are songs made famous by the likes of Michael Jackson, Kylie and Shakira.
There are also hits from musicals like Love Never Dies, Jesus Christ Superstar and Chicago.
Angie says: “The concept of travelling around the world is a simple way of incorporating lots of different styles, so we can showcase the talent we have at the school.
“With some countries the ideas came really easily. For example for Australia it had to be Kylie, and for Ireland, Riverdance .”
The ADP Theatre School was set up two years, when Angie was 22, making her one of the youngest theatre school principals in the country.
While still in her teens, it was Angie’s concert singing and playing the organ that first got her noticed locally, but the national spotlight fell on her after she performed as Sarah Brightman in ITV’s Stars In Their Eyes in 2005.
While the show is produced by Angie, the directorial duties are handled by brother Shane with choreography by Carly Lawson, Lizzie Jack and Angie.
This weekend’s show will be followed by a more ambitious production at Colchester’s Charter Hall on June 27 at 7.30pm.
Angie says: “It’s taking it to a whole new level. It’s a bigger venue and in the heart of where the children come from.”
