Reader letter from David Huskisson, of Granville Road, Clacton-on-Sea
CONGRATULATIONS on an excellent airshow, complemented by the sandy beaches and spectacular sunshine.
However, two things spoiled it for us.
First, the line of Union Jacks on the front of the pier. Two-thirds of each flag were blown away, probably years ago, leaving just four stumps of washed-out redwhite-and-blue.
An absolute disgrace and so disrespectful and a lost opportunity to boost the town and its civic pride.
The flag show wiped out any pride we had in our town.
Our other was the lack of commercial engagement.
With cars and coaches streaming into town and thousands pouring off the trains, here was good business ripe for the plucking.
But they weren’t prepared.
Long queues at the kiosks, inadequate staffing, items out of stock and cash only.
It’s their loss and our disappointment – and it could have been win-win for everyone.
