COLCHESTER’S city centre is a vibrant home to many businesses.
But many of the city’s commercial premises are currently on the market. Some will see their current tenants remain, but many are empty, too.
Two nightclubs in Crouch Street are among the business premises up for sale.
The first has a price tag of £795,000. The 2,690 sq ft unit is currently occupied by the Truth bar and nightclub, who holds a lease until 2032. It was formerly the Qube nightclub.
The second is currently the home of the Rubix nightclub which has a licence to open until 3am and holds a lease until 2029. It’s on the market for £430,555.
A grade II listed building dating from the 1500’s, offering “many fine period features”, in North Hill is on sale for £475,000. It’s been home to many businesses over the years, including the Haunt pub, a Mexican restaurant, and a nursery.

A unit in the High Street, which has recently been let to the new Brick Lane Bagel shop, is on the market for £360,000. Its new occupiers have taken on a 15-year lease – so fear not bagel fans!
Two doors up there is a 1,692 sq ft convenience store, which is also on sale for £310,000.
Further along the High Street is a retail property located between the Bill’s restaurant and Atik nightclub. The 2,230 sq ft unit is currently home to a dry cleaner, but the estate agent says it is “of interest to owner occupiers and developers”. The asking price is £215,000.
A city centre takeaway, which claims to be “the oldest kebab shop” in Colchester, having been under its current ownership since 1997, is on the market, along with its equipment. Its late licence allows it to open until 3am, seven days a week.
The former home of Argos in the city centre is also up for sale.
It was recently revealed the store could be reopened as a sports bar under exciting new plans.
Coffee shops and beauty salons are among the other buildings currently on sale.
