NEW dog day centre, Mabel & Friends took us on a tour of their ‘home-away-from-home’ retreat in Hatfield Peverel.
Local lady, Annette Hurst opened the luxury day centre on Terling road in Coggeshall last month, aiming to provide a ‘haven’ for dogs in a safe and comfortable environment.
Annette decided to launch her own dog retreat after poor experiences with other centres, and named the centre after her own rescue dog, Mabel.
The site is located in the countryside and is easily accessible, with a large parking area.
The entrance to Mabel & Friends leads to a reception area, featuring a seating area for dog owners and visitors, as well as refreshments and a consultation room.
Each dog has their very own lead hook, accompanied by a cute picture of them with their name.
Behind the reception is a dog grooming room, where pooches are washed and pampered before the end of each visit.
The main indoor dog area is sealed by fencing and features many different areas for visiting dogs to explore.
The areas are designed with all dogs needs in mind, particularly the puppy area and closed off room for older and over stimulated dogs.
The separated areas aim to let the dogs enjoy their time at the retreat in different ways, according to their age and ability.
Another area is the rest area, which features a number of comfy beds and blankets and has soothing music playing during rest time.
Next door is a 1-1 play room, decorated with portraits of Mabel and her friends, where staff members play with the dogs using stimulating toys and interaction.
Mabel & Friends has a huge outdoor play area for dogs to use, featuring lots of apparatus and interactive toys.
Located next door is a separate puppy outdoor area, giving the smaller pups room to run around.
The site itself is located away from the road and all outdoor areas are all fenced off with a member of staff supervising whist dogs are outside.
Each dog is taken into the grooming room before being picked up from each visit, being washed and groomed and put into their very own spa robe to rest, before their owner arrives.
Founder of Mabel & Friends, Annette Hurst said: “For us it’s all about the dogs.”
“We want them to feel safe and comfortable and have all their needs met.
“You’d be surprised at how the shyest dog will go from keeping to themselves to running around and playing with other dogs.
“You get to see their confidence grow and that’s the whole point.”
