A MUM-OF-THREE has praised firefighters after her car caught fire while she was driving.
Charmaine Kruger, 51, of Egremont Way, Colchester, was travelling along London Road on her way to work when she smelt petrol.
Smoke then started pouring out of the front of her car and she swerved off the road and onto the pavement getting out just before flames burst from her engine and along a trail of petrol behind her car.
A fire crew from Colchester arrived soon after and managed to extinguish the flames but her silver Peugeot 206 was destroyed.
She said: “They were brilliant. They are amazing and were here so quickly."
A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said the crew were able to extinguish the flames and clear the debris after about 20 minutes.
They were called at 8.10am this morning.
