BUNGLING hospital staff gave a baby an accidental morphine overdose as they fought to save her foot from a bizarre accident.
Olivia Pooley, 11-months-old, was rushed to Colchester General Hospital after a human hair wrapped itself so tightly around her foot that it cut into the skin and cut off the blood supply.
This painful phenomenon, called hair-thread tourniquet syndrome, is where hairs sitting loosely inside socks or tights become spontaneously tied round a digit.
Her parents, Daniel and Christine, of Lordswood Road, Colchester, only noticed her injuries when they undressed her for bed.
Olivia’s parents, both 27-years-old, have lodged an official complaint and hospital bosses have personally apologised and vowed to investigate.
