A LEADING Conservative councillor says the decision to scrap the car ban is a "victory for the people of Colchester".

Essex County Council announced today the car ban will end on Sunday, April 21.

Will Quince, leader of the Tories on Colchester Council, had petitioned County Hall to bring it to an end.

He said: “This is a great victory for the people of Colchester who had this controversial car ban imposed on them by the Lib Dem led Council.

"Colchester Conservatives listened to blue bade holders, the business community and shoppers and called on Essex County Council to put on the brakes."
