A TEENAGE murder suspect has appeared in court after he was arrested following an early morning raid.
Jack Hummerstone, 18, is accused of murdering Colchester rapper Thomas Brittain on March 9 this year.
Hummerstone, of no fixed address, appeared in the dock at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today where the charge of murder was read out to him.
He is also charged with Grievous Bodliy Harm with Intent and with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
A tired-looking Hummerstone appeared with a red jumper tied around his shoulders and wearing a grey and white striped polo shirt.
He spoke only to confirm his details.
The court was told Hummerstone, who had been remanded in custody since Sunday, would be applying for bail.
However magistrates said it was beyond their power to grant it.
Hummerstone was told he would have to reappear at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow for the application to be dealt with.
Hummerstone was arrested in the early hours of Sunday when police raided a property in Errol Street, Islington.
Thomas Brittain, 26, of Rotary Way, Colchester, was stabbed to death at a flat in Charles House, in St Peter’s Street, Colchester, in the early hours of March 9.
He died at the scene.
