PARTS of a major road will be closed as a £2 million improvement project gets underway.
Residents and councillors have called for improvements to Berechurch Road in Colchester for more than eight years.
Work is now due to be started by the end of the month but it could see traffic having to take alternative routes for six months.
However, campaigning councillor Lyn Barton said it will be short term pain for long term gain.
The project will see Berechurch Road widened and resurfaced to improve safety and visibility while extra bus stops and shelters will also be installed.
Parts of the road will be temporarily closed from the road’s junction with Circular Road North to Berechurch Hall Road as the work is undertaken in phases.
