PARENTS in Colchester and across north east Essex are being urged to vaccinate their families against an outbreak of measles sweeping the UK.
More than 800 people have already been struck down with the infection following an outbreak in Swansea.
Doctors are imploring residents to contact their GPs to book the MMR vaccination as soon as possible to avoid serious health risks to their children.
The warning comes on the same day Public Health England (PHE) announced a national catch-up programme to increase MMR vaccination uptake in children and teenagers.
Measles can lead to pneumonia, blindness, inflammation of the brain and death if not treated early enough.
