FORMER Colchester mayor Helen Chuah has gone back to her roots to raise money for a local charity.
A longtime supporter of Colchester, Tendring and Suffolk Borders Samaritans, she hosted a Malaysian curry evening at the branch’s Colchester headquarters.
The supper, which included regional dishes and desserts, was followed by a screening of the hit movie ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’.
Together, they raised £1,133 for the organisation’s aid offered those in distress, struggling to cope or at risk of suicide.
Gill Drake, the branch’s fundraising co-ordinator, said: “We are really grateful that Helen agreed to cook for us on our special fundraiser evening, and her Malaysian specialities were a triumph."
