ADVICE on composting is on hand from County Hall.
Compost Awareness Week takes place next week and spring is the perfect time to get started.
Almost a third of household waste can be home composted, including some uncooked kitchen scraps such as banana skins, apple cores and vegetable peelings, teabags, crushed eggshells, and small pieces of paper and cardboard.
Feeding the bin with a good mix of materials throughout the year will provide compost in nine to 12 months, which can be used to enrich plants, flower beds hanging baskets and window boxes.
- To find out more visit the Recycle for Essex website, and Essex residents can also receive free chive seeds for their gardens by liking or leaving a message on the Recycle for Essex Facebook page during Compost Awareness Week.
