ST Helena School, in Colchester,
has been handed £250,000 from
the Government.
The money will be spent on
replacing old windows and doors
at the school in Sheepen Road.
The building dates back to 1936,
but the new block and the
language block were built in the
1970s.
The school was one of 950
applicants for a share of the
£40million Academies capital
maintenance fund.
Jackie Watson, premises manager,
said: “It was an incredible
achievement and we are chuffed
to bits.
“The old Crittall windows are
single-glazed and pretty drafty.
“The new ones will be doubleglazed
and will help reduce our
heating costs and our carbon
emissions. They will also help
improve security and the whole
ambiance of the school.”
