EXCEPTIONAL dedication to have a charity fighting cancer has been recognised.
Dave Lacy and the Harriers from Colchester were shortlisted in Cancer Research UK’s annual Flame of Hope awards which acknowledge remarkable efforts in fundraising and volunteering.
They won a special commendation in the category Event Volunteer of the Year, for showing “exceptional dedication” after years of volunteering at Race for Life in Colchester.
Dave and his colleagues set up the 5K course, provide the marshals and lead bike, and de-rig the course at the end of the two races.
Dave also carries out site visits in advance of the events, checking that ground conditions are good and keeping an eye on the terrain in readiness for the big day.
