WORK has begun to convert a disused office into homes in the Dutch Quarter.
Builders have started internal demolition at Wickham House, Northgate Street, in a scheme to create 18 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
It is hoped the flats would be available for tenants within six months.
Work has begun without planning permission under new Government planning rules introduced from May 30 which allow offices to be turned into homes. The legislation was brought in to address a housing shortage and to revitalise disused office space, such as empty flats above high street shops.
