A MYSTERY 10 ft tall box placed on Colchester’s High Street four months ago has finally been unveiled as a travel information pod.
Shopkeepers were so bemused by the obelisk shaped box which appeared out of nowhere, they wrote poetry on it to engage passers-by.
Now the packaging has been removed to reveal a £20,000 touchscreen board, which currently gives bus passengers timetable information.
Later this summer, the software will be updated to provide real-time bus information from Essex County Council, and allow people to access tourism, information and news websites.
Each screen has a QR code, allowing information to be scanned onto smartphones.
