A SHOP could be set to lose its alcohol licence after it allegedly sold fake booze.
Traders watched on as Trading Standard officers allegedly raided Premier CK Food and Wine, in Colchester, after reports it was selling counterfeit alcohol to customers.
Local businesses reported seeing several lots of booze being taken away from the shop in The Willows, off Mersea Road.
One nearby trader, who asked not to be named, said: “It looked like a raid. They brought out all these boxes.
“The officers didn’t even wait until the man got into the shop, they took him straight away from his car and then went in the shop.
“We weren’t sure what was going on.”
Another trader said it was believed the counterfeit claims related to selling fake whisky.
Colchester Council is reviewing its licence after Essex County Council Trading Standards referred the case.
They said it was for crime and safety reasons.
Fake alcohol is produced in unlicensed distilleries and people’s homes.
It can be made using cheap alcohol, which can be a danger to health.
The Gazette was unable to contact owner Chaminda Kumara.
Essex County Council confirmed there was a live investigation ongoing.
