FOOTBALL fans have been warned not to risk parking fines when driving to Colchester United’s marquee pre-season friendlies.
The U’s welcomed Premier League side West Ham United on Tuesday and 67 fans got parking tickets.
They had parked illegally in Axial Way, on the bridge over the A12 and on the A12 on-slip from junction 28.
The club is gearing up to host Tottenham Hotspur tonight and East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town on Tuesday.
It has issued advice urging fans not to risk an £85 ticket.
A U’s spokesman said: “Fans should note all parking at the Weston Homes Community Stadium is sold out for tonight’s friendly game, and there will be no admission without a parking permit.
“Should you have a permit for the match, please display clearly as you approach the stadium car park for the stewards to see.”
“Axial Way, which is the road running away from the stadium, is an urban clearway, so any cars parked on this road are liable to receive a parking ticket from the local authorities.”
Some businesses in Axial Way do offer parking, but the club has encouraged fans to use £2 match day shuttle buses.
