A MERCHANT Navy veteran whose ship was sunk during the Second World War has received a medal for his service.
Richard Fearnside, 92, has been awarded the Arctic Star for the time he spent on the Russian convoys.
The Langham resident first went to sea in 1939, and in 1942 joined the doomed Hartlebury which was sunk off the Russian cost in the summer.
Mr Fearnside, a radio operator, spent three months in Arkhangelsk, Russia, before he was able to return home.
