A MAN who bit his cousin’s nose when trouble flared at a pub has been jailed for more than two years.
Jamie Edwards, 24, went on the rampage at the Live and Let Live in Stanway.
He got into a row with his cousin Carl Ellis and while they wresteld on the floor he bit his nose and ear.
When a women tried to intervene, Edwards, of Collingwood Road, Colchester, spat blood at her.
Then Edwards smashed seven windows, causing £1,600 damage.
Edwards admitted unlawful wounding, criminal damage and common assault when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.
Recorder Ian Evans jailed him for two years and two months.
He told him: "This was an ugly unpleasant incident.”
Evelyn Hicks, mitigating, told the court Edwards was sober when he arrived at the pub in Millers Lane on February 22 this year.
The court heard Edwards and Mr Ellis had spent hours in the pub and things got out of hand.
They got involved in a row and at one point they were on the ground when Mr Ellis felt a sharp pain in his face.
He had been bitten on the nose and between his ear and eye.
A woman at the pub tried to intervene but Edwards spat blood at her.
Moments later, Edwards started throwing gravel at the pub, smashing windows, and this led to the closure of the restaurant because of shattered glass.
Mrs Hicks said: "The behaviour of the two of them was less than perfect but Edwards takes full responsibility for his actions."
Speaking after yesterday’s heaing, Peter Freeman, Live and Let Live’s landlord and owner, said: “I think the sentence is justified.
“My daughter and I have worked long and hard to make this a family-friendly pub, a real ale pub with good food, and this sort of thing spoils a hard won reputation.
“I knew him but he only ever came in about once every six months and had never done anything like this.
“It came out of the blue. He had been warned because he was getting loud but people were shocked it suddenly escalated.
“The damage was fixed the next day and he will never be allowed back in here.
“From a business point of view it shows the police and justice system doing their jobs properly, but from a personal point of view it is very sad a young man did something like this and now he has to go to prison.”
Mr Ellis received treatment for skin loss to the tip of his nose and left nostril, the court was told.
