Colchester's footballers were preparing to show off their musical talents today as they re-record their anthem for charity.

The squad is teaming up with two local punk bands - Special Duties and Koopa - to sing Up the U's at a studio in Witham.

The single will be released with money going to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which looked after loyal U's supporter 14-year-old Emily Begg, of Wickford, before she died.

Special Duties originally recorded the single with the 1997 Colchester United squad to celebrate the team's progress to Wembley in the Auto Windscreens Shield final.

U's skipper Karl Duguid was on the original 1997 recording.

He said: "Emily was someone the lads really formed a bond with so we will do everything we can do to help the charity."
