A DAD who is dying from a terminal illness hopes to put newly diagnosed patients at ease by releasing a video on the truth behind living with motor neurone disease.

Chris Moss, 56, was diagnosed with the debilitating illness seven years ago but although he knows it will eventually kill him, he has learnt to live with it and wants other patients to do the same.

“It’s a disease which is seen as a death sentence,” said wife Imogen, 46, who lives with Mr Moss in Timber Hill, in Colchester.

“This is about saying to people ‘this is a horrible disease but you can learn to live with it and that’s what we’ve done’.”

When patients are diagnosed, they are generally told they will live between one and five years, so Mr Moss has already out-lived that prognosis.

Speaking through a state of the art computer interpretation device, Mr Moss added: “If you are newly diagnosed, this video should put you at ease and make things easier for the patient’s family as well.”

The video is a collection of answers to 20 questions submitted by people who might otherwise be too embarrassed to ask face to face.

“We’re very open about MND,” added Mrs Moss.

“So we welcome even the most difficult questions.

“Chris can no longer speak, but we know his humour and he’s loved answering them.”

The video, which took three months to make, was aired for the first time last Thursday, July 18, at St Helena Hospice, in Highwoods.
