A WIDOWER’S waist length locks are to be lopped off to help others.
David Jackson, who has been growing his hair for a decade, lost his wife Jean to a rare form of leukaemia in March last year.
This Sunday, he will be going for the chop and donating his shaved off hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer.
Mr Jackson, 55 , of Greenstead, Colchester, said: “I wish to bring to people’s attention the great work that Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is doing to help people like my wife.
“I have asked the nurses at Colchester if they would like to come along on the day with their strimmers, hedge cutters or lawn mowers and have a go at my hair!
“To be truthful, it wasn’t until now I have taken in what I have let myself in for.
“I am fairly well tanned at the moment so I keep telling people I will look like I am walking around with a swimming cap on.”
Mr Jackson hopes to raise £3,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
The nurses invited to attend all played a part in his wife’s care.
Mrs Jackson was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2008 and after a hard fought battle involving new drugs from the USA and Germany, plus a failed bone marrow transplant, she died aged 54.
The head shave will be at the Ardleigh car boot sale at 11am.
