A CAMPAIGN to reduce drink spiking in north east Essex has been expanded.
Anglian Community Enterprise’s team Firsky or Risky has been visiting pubs and clubs in Colchester and Tendring to test drinks and speak to party goers.
Following its success members of ACE’s chlamydia screening team, who already visit local pubs and clubs four nights a week, will also be offering people the drink spiking kit.
Jayne Overett, Sexual Health, Drug and Alcohol Lead at ACE, said: “There is no evidence to suggest drink spiking is any worse locally than elsewhere and incidents, though sometime high profile, thankfully remain isolated.
“However, our philosophy has always been to be proactive in promoting Colchester and Tendring as areas that will not tolerate these sorts of issues.
“We met with groups including the Safer Colchester Partnership and Tendring Community Safety Partnership about the campaign and their reaction was very positive.
“They have come on board with us and have the same proactive attitude of keeping their customers safe.
“We want to make people aware of not leaving their drinks unattended and deter any would-be spikers from our area by creating zero tolerance zones.”
Police are currently investigating claims three women might have had their drinks spiked while on a night out in Colchester on Saturday.
People who believe they have had their drinks spiked can get health advice and support by calling into Cornerstone in Sir Isaac’s Walk, Colchester, or by calling 01206 363003.
