COLCHESTER residents can pick a new outdoor gym and toddlers play area to use in Castle Park.

The £120,000 “Olympic Legacy” project will see the old children’s playground turned into a play area for adults.

A new toddlers sandpit is also planned to be built between the cafe and the new playground, with work due to start after the school holidays.

Colchester Council has unveiled six options submitted by different companies for how the adult gym and sandpit, funded through developer contributions, should take shape.

The council is looking at the possibility of moving the helter skelter, the old park’s most popular slide, to another part of the park.

Annie Feltham, councillor responsible for communities and leisure, said: “It is important to the council that we provide sport and leisure facilities for the whole Borough to use, along with good quality play areas.

“All of these designs look fantastic and I hope that residents will have their say in this important legacy project by telling us which outside gym and toddler play area they want us to build.”

The designs are on display in Castle Park and at www.colchester.gov.uk/castleparkolympiclegacy. Voting closes on Monday, August 26.
