A soldier who drove to McDonald's whilst almost three times over the alcohol limit has had his licence taken away.

Kevin Kenton-Barnes, 27, was arrested at the barracks on July 7 after a member of the public saw him at the restaurant and reported him as driving under the influence.

The father-of-two, who is originally from Norwich, had spent the evening at a friend’s house in the St Michael’s Estate where he drank about four cans of Fosters lager.

He then drove the Rover 25 to McDonald's where he bought food and then to the barracks where he was arrested.

When he was breathalysed officers was found that he had 98mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath – almost three times over the legal limit of 35mcgs.

Kenton-Barnes has had his licence taken away for 24 months and was ordered to pay a total of £481.

He will also face punishment from the army, which could see him banned from promotion for the next five years or dismissed.
