Police and paramedics were called to Plume Avenue, Prettygate, at about 11am today following reports a car had left the road and gone into the garden wall of a house.
Shrub End Road was closed in both directions to allow the Herts Air Ambulance to land before taking the elderly man for further treatment.
The man, who suffered a suspected heart attack, has been flown to a specialist unit at Harefield Hospital, near London.
Plume Avenue remains closed while police continue their investigation.
