A BARN owl box containing eggs was deliberately smashed from a tree.
The bird box, in Marsh Farm Lane, Thorrington, was targeted by vandals.
Conservationists monitoring the box said four eggs which had been inside were missing after the attack.
The smashed-up box was found at 9.20am on July 5.
Essex Police confirmed it was investigating a report of criminal damage to the barn owl box.
