CROWD research by Essex University academics has featured on national TV.
Work by the Mathematical Sciences department into how crowdes behave during an emergency formed part of comedian Dara O Brian’s Science Club on BBC Two.
An experiment around an evacuation scenario was staged at the university’s East 15 Acting School with a group of students.
They were told to leave the building using a particular exit when an alarm was sounded. However, some of those taking part had been told to deliberately leave using the wrong exit to see how others might behave and two-thirds of the group went the wrong way.
- The research features around 45 minutes into the episode, called Mindbending, which is available to view on BBC iPlayer.
