Colchester’s first solar farm has been given the go-ahead by the borough council.
A proposal to place 60,000 solar panels on a 74 acre site – the size of 40 football pitches – at Highfields Farm, Kelvedon, was approved by the council’s planning committee on Thursday evening.
Politicians unanimously voted to pass the recommendations made council officers to approve Hive Energy’s £20million farm, which could provide energy for 2,500 homes.
