ESTABLISHED shopkeeper Steve Miller is closing down - claiming pollution from town centre traffic is damaging his health.
Mr Miller has run MillerStationery in St Botolph’s Street, Colchester, for nearly 50 years.
But he is now calling it a day after suffering a health scare.
Mr Miller is now 69 but says he would have carried on for another ten years if he hadn’t become ill.
The closure of MillerStationery later this year follows the loss of other long-standing independent stores including Jacks famous supplies, Hawkins jewellers and Horbury’s home ware store.
Mr Miller has been a leading campaigner for Colchester town centre improvements and had backed the traffic ban.
However, the 18 month trial was abandoned by Essex County Council after three weeks following complaints from businesses and the disabled.
Mr Miller said the returning congestion had reignited the pollution problem.
