An investigation will be carried out to find out why a district nurse arrived to treat a patient seven weeks after he died.
Iris Page, of West Street, Colchester, was shocked when she opened her front door on November 28 to find a district nurse on the doorstep.
The woman had come to change the dressings on her husband Richard's legs but Mr Page, 78, had died of a heart attack on October 2.
North East Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT), which runs the district nurse service, said it believed there had been a breakdown in communications and an investigation would be carried out.
