STUDENTS have dug deep to help youngsters in need.
The pupils at Littlegarth School in Nayland paid not to wear uniform to school and the funds collected will be given to Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the 100,000 Smiles appeal.
The appeal aims to raise £100,000 to convert a redundant piece of land at Lexden Springs special school into a play ground.
The play area will have special equipment which can be used by the children who have a range of disabilities.
Littlegarth School head teacher Peter Jones said: "We feel it is a fabulous scheme to help children enjoy their play time."
The next major fundraiser for the appeal is the school's Christmas Fair on December 7 between 12-3pm at the school in Halstead Road, Colchester.
