MORE than 300 police officers are working 14-hour days to keep Colchester safe.
The high-visibility policing operation comes after the brutal murder of Saudi student Nahid Al-Manea on the Salary Brook Trail on Tuesday, June 17.
About 100 extra officers are patrolling the streets of Colchester every day in a bid to reassure the public.
It is also in response to the murder of Jim Attfield - the 33-year-old father-of-five who was found stabbed 102 times near to Lower Castle Park on March 29.
Det Chief Insp Steve Worron, head the Serious Crime Directorate for Kent and Essex, revealed extra resources have been found so the patrols can continue for the coming weeks.
He said: “Officers are working between 12 and 14-hour days to make sure people in the town feel safe.
“Some of the officers are not officers who which usually work in Colchester but they recognise the importance of the investigation and they are absolutely committed to working those hours.”
