UPDATED: STUDENTS have been given more than 2,000 panic alarms since the murder of their colleague.
Essex University funded the alarms to try and keep people safe after the murder of 31-year-old Nahid Al-Manea on Tuesday, June 17.
She was stabbed 16 times while walking along the Salary Brook Trail, Greenstead, Colchester, just before 10.40am.
The student from Saudi Arabia was living in Woodrow Way at the time of the attack.
It is the second brutal murder in three months in Colchester after James ‘Jim’ Attffield, 33, of East Bay, was stabbed 102 times near Castle Park just before 6am on March 29.
Six people have been arrested in total in connection with one or other of the murders but nobody has been charged.
Registrar Bryn Morris said: “Our sense of outrage at these senseless actions remains undiminished.”
Donations for a scholarship for international students in the name of Nahid have started coming in with the university hoping for donations from here, Saudi Arabia and around the world.
Mr Morris said: “It is a way to mark her time here and pay respect. Future people can benefit for the education she valued which was so cruelly cut short.”

Parts of the Salary Brook Trail gave laso been reopneed.
The three lakes were closed whilst officers searched the lakes and nearby areas as part of the on-going investigation into the murder of Nahid Almanea.
The search work at two of the lakes has now been completed and the public are able to access them. The Salary Brook Trail pathway still remains closed. This is so specialist search and forensic teams can continue with their work.
Chief Inspector Richard Phillibrown, Colchester District Commander, said: "We have received excellent support throughout this investigation from the whole community.
"We appreciate their patience whilst the forensic searches continue. We would also urge anyone with information, no matter how small you might think, to contact us."
He added: "Please contact us with information. No matter how irrelevant you may think it is it could be the key to helping us solve both of these horrific crimes.”
Senior police and politicians have been signing a book of condolences as the hunt for Nahid's killer continues.
Chief Insp Richard Phillibrown, district commander for Colchester, was joined by Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston to sign a book of condolence in tribute to student Nahid Al-Manea today.

Four more descriptions have been released of people who they want to speak to with many other crucial witnesses still outstanding
Those individuals would have been in the vicinity of the Salary Brook trail area in Greenstead, between 10.20am and 10.40am on Tuesday June 17, the day Nahid was murdered.
Her body was found at 10.39am.
The Essex University student had been stabbed 16 times.
No weapon has been found and the motive remains a mystery.
Detective Chief Supt Steve Worron, who is leading the investigation, has urged still people to come forward with information.
He said: “I said two weeks ago, together with the community of Colchester, we will find Nahid’s killer or killers, I think that is as true now as it was back then.
“I still think there are people who think they have not got information relevant to us but that could be vital.
“Some people have come forward concerned they have left it two weeks and they will be judged for that.
“It might be two weeks after Nahid’s murder but it is still as relevant now as it was two weeks ago.”
The four descriptions released today are: *A white woman, around 5ft 7 ins tall, aged in her 20s, with light brown hair, and wearing a summer dress and a denim jacket.
*A white man aged 19-23 with blonde hair, wearing a backpack and white headphones.
*A white man with short, dark hair, wearing light-coloured trousers and using a mobile phone.
*A black man, wearing a forward facing cap and back pack and a dark blue and yellow striped polo shirt.
Overall 11 descriptions have now been released.
